Day 153

Today...we started the hunkering down process...Usually...that's just what I call it when I take my shirt off and dance...(Get it...hunk-ering down...get it? nevermind)
Dean helped me load some sand bags up at the local firestation today...we blocked up our 3 exterior doors...and we are officially bunkered in for the time being...
We are getting some bands now...it's 9:40ish...word on the street is that our neighborhood doesn't flood....we'll see...I guess...
Depending on our power situation tomorrow...I'll update the blog regularly from STORM CENTRAL...
Gustav is nearing the homestead...keep your fingers crossed for us...
Oh...and for those of you that aren't sure where we live...exactly...
According to the google earth hurricane tracking software...we are approximately 65 miles northwest of where it is projected to make landfall...

Days 151, 152

If only there was something exciting to talk about...
Justin Isham came down to visit us Wednesday thru Saturday... and... well...he brought some 'weather' with him...
He took a trip down to New Orleans Harrah's casino on Thursday....we hung out here on Friday and played some golf...then we braved the New Orleans hurricane evacuators...and went back to Harrah's Saturday...then to the airport...
When the casino closed early we went to eat al a local diner...and then spent 2 hours in traffic driving 16 miles to the airport...
We went to a place called 'Mothers'...Their famous Poboy is called the Ferdi Special...it has ham, roastbeef and an additional topping called Debris...not sure what it is...but...you get alot of gravy au jous type of stuff that make your bread all soggy and mighty tasty...

Day 150

Funny story...
Tonight, we were talking about taking a group camping trip...and I said that we would need 2 tents...
and Janet asked how we would keep the boys in their tent...
i said...we won't have to worry about it...the Bears will make sure the boys stay in their tent...and the conversation pretty much faded out...
Well...about 5 minutes later we realized Dean was crying on the couch...because we were going to let the Bears keep the boys in their tent...
So...I had to console him...and insure to him that we wouldn't ever go camping where there are bears....Mountain Lions...but definitely no bears...

Janet didn't think i was helping the situation...
but Daniel went with it...and started naming other animals that would be there...like Kangaroos...

Are you waiting for th eFall TV season to get my reviews of Heroes, Lost, 24, American Idol...and all the other junky shows I can't stop watching?

What's going on in these rogue states...that aren't Louisiana and Florida...Feel free to leave a comment...to let me know you stopped by to take a read...

Oh...and got some news on the house front today...
We were told...by an agent...that she spoke to someone at the bank...and she said...that they said...that they have submitted our offer for acceptance...Meaning...we could be closing on the house in 2 weeks or so...Just in time to have Gustav blow it away...

Day 146

We went to Mississippi today to celebrate a good friend's first child's baptism...

I thought the addition of the stars and bars flag inside the Catholic Church was an odd place to encounter racism...
uh...I mean....heritage...

Days 142-145

Keepin' busy in these parts...Another week of school for the boys is done...We went and looked at some houses yesterday...This one, in particular has some CRAZY purple carpet and pink and yellow walls throughout the house...

We got some good news about the other house...but nothing definite yet...still waiting on a response from the bank....keep your fingers crossed...it was 6 weeks today that we put in our offer....

Day 140

I'm sick...
My dog keeps stealing my chair...
I'm totally unprepared to dominate my Fantasy Football league...
Olympic Gymnastic Scoring stinks...
and I think I'm going to have to fire someone....soon...

see you tomorrow.

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Day 139

We took the boys to see ET....I mean Wall-E today...
It was good....not my favorite Pixar movie...but good...The intro cartoon short was pretty funny too...

It was definitely a 'movie with a message'...

Saturday, August 16, 2008

Days 137 and 138

On Friday, we found that Ascension Parish was awarded a $100,000 grant that I applied for...We were 1 of 20 applicants to receive 1 0f 5 grants...
(patting myself on the back)

I met my mom for lunch in downtown Baton Rouge...and her office is REALLY close to the State Capital...

Saturday I took the boys out on the golf course...and they both got to drive the cart...It was an adventure...

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Day 136

Went to a Smart Growth Summit on Livable Communities in Downtown Baton Rouge today...

Lots of buzz words...

Oh...and I declared my 1984, 11 year old love for Mary Lou Retton to Janet for the first time tonight...

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Day 135

17 Days to the start of Tiger Football season....
Can you feel it?

I'm trying to find some tickets to the opening game against Appalachian State....so....if you know anyone with connections....(Uncle Steve)....I'm looking to buy...or acquire some...

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Days 133 & 134

Daniel had his first day of Kindergarten on Monday...and he got off the bus smiling...only 13 more years of that...

and today I got a call questioning if the Parish has any ordinance in place to keep someone from keeping a horse in a subdivision....the answer is no...

Sunday, August 10, 2008

Day 132

Today was Fan Appreciation Day for the LSU Football Team...
The online site said that the doors open at 1:30 and the football team arrives at 2:30 to sign autographs...
We got there 'early' at 1:40...We got in line behind the 5,000 or so other people who got there earlier than us...
When we got in the building at 2:10....we immediately got in the line to get a photo with Trindon Holliday the little speedster for the Tigers...
After waiting in that line for another 30 minutes or so...we just decided to walk around and take pictures...and head out...The boys were upset we didn't get any autographs or pictures with the players...but...overall...it was a fun afternoon....

Saturday, August 9, 2008

Day 131

Janet went to Orlando today for a Baby shower...and to see some friends...
so...it's a boy's night in...

We played video games and watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics...

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Day 130

So we went to see the new Batman on Saturday...

I'm thinking Daniel would make a good Joker for Halloween...

What a great movie...The sound in the theater wasn't all that great...but maybe it was because I didn't take my Batman mask off....

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Day 129

So...I've been having some lower back and neck pain...and I decided to try and find a local chiropractor...
What is ya'll's opinion of these guys?
I sorta get the quack vibe...but...I can't deny the fact that I generally feel better after several treatments...
I don't know what my options are...other than that...

You can sorta see my whopajawed spine up near my head...

I suspect that it may be the origins of most of my headaches...But the price of a years worth of treatments is very expensive...

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Day 128

128 Days...and 100 Blog Posts later...
an Ode to Joy....

Monday, August 4, 2008

Days 126 and 127

Thanks to James....the words of the day are....
Augmented Reality Technology...
Check this out...
and speaking of the 2 young FL natives....that are about to start school...yeah...I'm not sure who's more excited...Janet or the boys...I'm not 100% sure she's going to be able to work in complete silence...
We visited the school on Friday..it's a combo Elem / Middle school...and the football stadium for the highschool is there too...
We went through this long cue thing...registering, paying for zipper bags, bus info, buying sweatshirts...etc.
Realizing that all of their clothes are pointless now...because all public schools wear uniforms....you know...that kind of stuff...
I read through the code and conduct policy book...highlighting the good points to the boys...and I realized when I was done...that it was a pointless exercise...Describing how if you get an A-Everday in conduct...you will be rewarded...
As if....
We're shooting for B-everyday...
